“Complaining does not work as a strategy. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won’t make us happier.” ~ Randy Pausch
Feeling frustrated, down or upset? Wishing life was different or you possessed some “thing” that you want but don’t have? Find yourself complaining about the food in your fridge or not having the right outfit for the outing this weekend? STOP!!
Complaining and feeling sorry for yourself gets you nowhere but down. What you focus on is what you attract into your life. If you focus on what you don’t have, how heavy you are or not having enough money that’s exactly what you’ll have. So, suck it up and change your focus.
How you ask?
Be grateful: Take a look around. You may not like the food in your refrigerator or the clothes in your closet, but you have those things. There are people who would be happy to have just half of what you have. Be thankful for and appreciate what you do have.
Change It: If you don’t like something change it. You have the ability to change your circumstances, quit sitting around thinking up excuses or getting caught up in the old ones. Figure out what you need to do and do it!
Solve Your Issue: Want something that you don’t have right now? Make a plan to get it. List each step necessary and then work your plan. Don’t know what you need to do? Talk to people that already have what you want, ask how they got it or achieved that status. Usually people are more than happy to share their story.
Change Your Perspective: There are a few things that are out of your control. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. For instance, you can’t change the weather. Rather than complaining about the weather, find ways to make the weather work for you. Stuck inside? Maybe it’s time to take care of the cleaning and organizing you’ve been putting off. You’ll feel great when it’s done. Maybe it’s time to catch up on some movies or call an old friend or maybe you just need to go out and dance in the rain.
Use your time wisely. Quit complaining and take control of your life to make it the best it can be. Complaining gets you nowhere, focus and perspective gets you wherever you want to go.
