“YOU are your worst enemy. It is your negative thoughts that hold you back, nothing else.” ~ Leon Brown
What gets in the way of doing what you want or need to do? What holds you back from following your dreams? We tend to find reasons outside ourselves when things are not happening as we would like. Things like, I have too much to do, I have to take care of this or that, “they” cause us problems (whoever “they” is at that moment), I don’t have the resources, etc.
Let’s take a look inside; just for a moment . . . maybe, just maybe it’s you that’s holding you back. All those things we tend to think are holding us back may just be excuses. Don’t get me wrong, they’re definitely challenges and can often times be obstacles for us, but they are not the true reason we’re not accomplishing what we want.
You have the power to achieve and accomplish whatever it is that you want; but first you have to get out of your own way!
Don’t Over Think Everything: Sometimes you just have to say YES and figure out the rest. Having a plan is of course very helpful. You should know what you want to do and have a plan to achieve it, however don’t get stuck trying to work out every detail.
Be Ready & Willing to Change Course: There will be times when you have to change direction, get creative or have a “do-over”. It’s like going on a road trip and encountering road construction, sometimes you have to detour, sometimes you have to turn around and go back to where you started to find a different route and sometimes you just get creative by following different paths until you end up where you want to go.
Be Determined: You can call this perseverance, tenacity, or just plain stubbornness. Keep going. If what you tried didn’t yield the result you wanted, try again. Is someone getting in your way? Include them or create some space between you. Be creative . . . Is it time you’re struggling with? Maybe you need to get up a little earlier or stay up a little later? Keep pushing forward! – You have to really want it and be determined to get what you’re going for.
Find Support: Find a tribe! What the heck is a tribe? A tribe, in this context, is a group of like-minded people who believe in you and support you. This may be not be those in your friends and family list, but may be strangers you haven’t met yet. Find a group that will help hold you accountable, help you with resources, maybe even team up with you if that’s what you’re looking for. There are millions out there from local groups you can find in your community papers, Meet-up and through word-of-mouth, Facebook groups, on-line communities such as Pick A Struggle or through spiritual, personal and/or professional associations. Finding your tribe will help you more than you can imagine.
Quit being your own enemy and show yourself some love; get out of your way and start achieving your dreams today.
